Riverside County Courthouse Guide: Where to File Your Case (2026)

Riverside Superior Court does not let you file at whichever courthouse is closest — it assigns the courthouse by your home ZIP code and case type, under administrative orders published at riverside.courts.ca.gov. A petition taken to the wrong window can be rejected on the spot. This guide summarizes the current orders (checked September 2026) for the four case types we help with every week.

Shortcut: our free forms tools pick the correct courthouse from your ZIP automatically and print it on your court forms — name change, probate, divorce & service by publication.

Name changes (Petition for Change of Name, NC-100)

Per the order revised July 8, 2026, name-change and change-of-gender petitions are filed at five courthouses only. The Riverside Historic Courthouse no longer accepts them.

After you file: the publication step

Name changes (CCP §1277), probate notices (Probate Code §8121), and service of summons by publication all require publishing in an adjudicated newspaper. The Hemet Chronicle (adjudicated for Riverside County, Case No. MCC2001316) publishes name-change orders for $98 flat, probate notices for $374.50, and summons — each with the signed Affidavit of Publication the court file needs.
