Publishing Your NC-120 Order to Show Cause in Riverside County

After you file your NC-100, the court gives you a stamped NC-120 Order to Show Cause for Change of Name with your hearing date. California requires that order to be published in a newspaper before the judge can grant your name change.

The publication rule

Under Code of Civil Procedure §1277, the NC-120 must be published in a newspaper of general circulation in Riverside County once a week for four successive weeks before the hearing. The newspaper then signs an Affidavit (Proof) of Publication for your court file.

Why the Hemet Chronicle

The Hemet Chronicle is adjudicated for all of Riverside County (Superior Court Cases MCC2001316 and MCC2001738), so it qualifies for name-change publications county-wide. Our free forms tool pre-designates it on your NC-120.

What to bring to the hearing

The proof of publication (we can file it for you), your ID, and copies of your forms. If no one objects, the judge signs the NC-130 Decree Changing Name.
