EmpowerED Foundations helps parents, adult learners, justice-impacted people and low-income families enroll in college, earn certifications and find work. Owner Kalisha Gomez guides clients through financial aid, grants and scholarships, and helps them build résumés and write application essays. The organization also offers GED support, youth programs, career guidance and business startup help. It serves Hemet, Perris, Moreno Valley and Riverside by appointment.

What sets us apart

EmpowerED Foundations began as a grassroots program in Riverside, where Gomez learned firsthand how to help student parents pursue higher education. That experience shaped the organization's programs, which focus on the specific hurdles parents face when returning to school.

Our story

Gomez started the effort after seeing how little visible support existed for parents returning to school. She found the process nerve-racking and wanted to close the gap student parents face when they re-enter higher education. EmpowerED Foundations now walks clients through enrollment and completion, points them to grants and scholarships they qualify for, and coaches them on résumés and essays.
